Austin Scott on the Issues

In Congress, Austin Scott will work to lower taxes, stop illegal immigration, reduce the cost of energy, and deliver affordable healthcare options to American citizens.

Healthcare

America’s healthcare system is in need of serious reform. But instead of an all-out government takeover like the one we now have, we need to provide market-based solutions that address the needs of American citizens, not partisan politicians in Washington. Obama’s healthcare reform became reality through Nancy Pelosi’s back-room deals, without regard for the will of the American people. We need a Congressman who understands healthcare issues and has the courage to stand up against Pelosi’s far-left leadership in the House. That candidate is Austin Scott.

Economy and Jobs

As a conservative Republican, Austin Scott believes in a regulated free market economy, not the excessive bailouts or pork-laden “stimulus spending” popular in Congress today. Austin believes that small business is the answer to putting America’s economy back on track. By simplifying regulatory processes, lowering taxes, and providing incentives to hire new employees, small business can prosper and America’s economy can move forward.

Federal Spending

The Democrats in Congress have taken spending to unprecedented levels, and show no signs of stopping. While American families are forced to tighten their belts, Congress continues to spend and drive our nation further into debt. And the only solution the Democrats seem to know is to raise taxes. But the answer is to reduce taxes and reduce spending. Austin Scott will work hard to pass a balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution.

Energy

Austin Scott believes that energy independence is the best long-term solution to America’s energy needs. Separating ourselves from dependence on foreign powers will involve developing alternative resources here at home, for use by Americans. We have extraordinary resources available to us in the form of wind energy, nuclear power, and alternative fuels. Austin believes that with proper safety measures and stringent oversight, domestic oil production can and should continue in America.

Lowering Taxes

As an independent businessman, Austin Scott knows that lower taxes on business and consumers means more money for the private sector to put to work in the economy, resulting in job growth and increased economic opportunity. Unlike the current leadership in Washington, Austin believes that the private sector should provide the economic growth to move our economy forward, not the government.

Education

Austin is a product of Georgia public education, and his mother and sister are both public school teachers.   Austin’s son is a student in Georgia public schools. Austin believes that education is inherently a local issue, and should not be subject to excessive federal control. He will work to increase the quality of education in the 8th District and return control to our teachers and parents.

Immigration

Austin believes that legal immigrants who follow the proper procedures for citizenship should be welcomed into this country. However, illegal immigration has become an economic and national security problem in the United States. Our borders are not adequately secured, and our existing laws are not enforced. Austin Scott will work hard in Congress to secure our borders, enforce our existing immigration laws, and remove those immigrants who have broken the law. He does not support amnesty programs. He does support programs that enable local law enforcement to partner with federal officials to identify and deport criminal illegal aliens.
